ChatGPT — August 7, 2026

This release significantly enhances the ChatGPT experience with improved file management and smarter conversations. New features include retained formatting when pasting from sources like Google Docs, a file library for easy re-adding of saved documents, and comprehensive search across conversations, folders, and the library. Answers from attached files are now more precise, while Voice conversations benefit from background safeguards, dictation retries on iOS, quicker starts on Android, and support for file uploads and Projects. ChatGPT Work users also gain visibility into their usage.

  • We’ve made it easier to bring documents and saved files into your conversations, find what you need, and pick up where you left off.
  • Writing, files, and search
  • Keep your formatting when you paste. On the web, text copied from Google Docs or another ChatGPT conversation keeps its headings, bold text, links, and lists, both while you’re writing and after you send your message.
  • Add saved files without uploading them again. Open the composer menu on the web, select Add from library, and choose a file you’ve already saved.
  • Select several Library items at once. On the web, drag across multiple files or folders to select them together.
  • Find folders, files, and past conversations faster. Search now includes folders and matches conversation titles across web, iOS, and Android. On the web, you can also search within Library to find your saved files.
  • Get answers that stay closer to your documents. ChatGPT makes better use of information in attached files when you ask it to summarize a document, find specific details, review material, or draft from a source.
  • Use an updated composer when signed out. The signed-out experience on the web now includes a cleaner, unified composer menu.

  • Safeguards for background Voice conversations. On mobile, ChatGPT can recognize when a background Voice conversation no longer seems active, check whether you’re still there, and end the session if you don’t respond. You can turn off Background conversations at any time in Settings → Voice.

  • Dictate with fewer interruptions. If dictation fails because of a connection issue or timeout, ChatGPT automatically retries once, helping you finish recording without starting over.
  • Pick up completed answers without the replay. When you return to a conversation, completed answers now appear without slowly replaying as though they’re still being generated.

  • Start Voice conversations faster. Improved connection times make it quicker to begin a Voice conversation with ChatGPT.
  • ChatGPT Work on the web
  • See your Work usage at a glance. Eligible users on personal plans and ChatGPT Business can see their remaining Work usage in the sidebar. Available credit options depend on your account and workspace permissions.
  • Files and Projects in ChatGPT Voice
  • GPT-Live in ChatGPT Voice now supports file uploads and Projects. You can now upload files in a voice conversation and analyze its contents or ask questions. You can also use voice in Projects, referencing recent project chats, sources, and project instructions. Learn more about ChatGPT Voice.
